GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP. It shares all GIMP’s advantages, including the long feature list and customisability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program’s interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop’s, adjusts the program’s terminology to match Adobe’s. GIMPshop does not support Photoshop plugins, all GIMP’s own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. However it is a great open source Photoshop alternative.

  1. Irfanview can run Adobe 8bf filters and ones like Optikverve, Smartcurve and third party USM alternatives add a lot to its very limited (and not very good) editing features.

  2. You are talking about free apps, they are not all open-source…

For example,Adobe thing is not open-source, it is just free of charge.

  3. Why are there no dates on posts like this?

I see something cool, like ChocoFlop, check out their site, and find out the product has been discontinued for a couple of years! There is NO indication on this site when this post was made. Not even the responses have dates. Judging from the ChocoFlop thing, this post must be at least two years old, likely older.

Stale information is just as bad as incorrect information. If your data is out-of-date, either update it, remove it, or AT LEAST provide a date when it was posted: then we have a context with which to understand the content.
